Recovery Prayers

NA Prayers from Snowy – up to 4th step

Both Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous Adelaide fellowship’s were so fortunate to have had “Snowy” as an older cleaner member keeping the doors open and the message of hope alive for more than 50+ years.

Snowy never seemed to forget a face and even if he had only met you once whenever he was at a meeting he would extend his hand and say “hello [insert name]”. Every so often he would roam the meeting rooms with a folder and some hand typed prayers to give to newcomers. The prayer below is a retyped version of the 12 step prayer from Snowy (only up to Step 4 at this stage).

RIP Snowy you are so dearly missed.

FIRST STEP PRAYER

Today I ask for help with my addiction
Denial has kept me from seeing how powerless I am
and how my life is unmanageable
I need to learn and remember that I have an incurable illness
and that abstinence is my only solution

SECOND STEP PRAYER

I pray for an open mind so I may come to believe
in a power greater than myself that
can restore me to sanity
I pray for humility and the continued opportunity
to increase my faith
heal my spirit and restore in me a clear mind

THIRD STEP PRAYER

Take my will and my life
Guide me in my recovery
Show me how to live

FOURTH STEP PRAYER

Dear God,
It is I who has made my life a mess
I have done it and I cannot undo it
My mistakes are mine and I will begin
A searching and fearless moral inventory
I will write down my wrongs
But I will also include that which is good
I pray for the strength to complete the task
