Recovery

The benefits of drinking 3 litres of water a day.

I am 105 days into my recovery & one thing I have noticed in my physical changes has been unwanted weight gain. I have been eating alot more foods & drinks that do not necessarily benefit my health but serve as momentary pleasures. One important quote that I now manifest in my recovery is ‘health is wealth’. Therefore I have done some research & acquired useful information as tools to maintain my physical health, better enhance my recovery & quality of life.

The first thing I came across was exercise which is something I focus on 3 – 4 days a week. The second is nutrition to which I have taken on a vegetarian diet for 30 days. Today is day 24.

Thirdly is water intake which is what I am going to blog about today.

I am on day 3 of drinking 3 litres of water a day. There are 4 cups to every litre. I span my water intake throughout the day & rotate bottles of water from the freezer to the fridge. It is recommended a daily intake of 2.7 litres for women & 3.7 litres for men. Water comprises 45 – 75% of body weight & plays a key role in heart health, weight management, physical performance, body temperature, nutrient transport & brain function. Water may help you feel full & temporarily increase metabolism which may fasten weight loss as well as flush out unwanted toxins from the body. Drinking water before meals can be useful as it promotes feelings of fullness & reduced appetite as well as increase the number of calories you burn throughout the day. It promotes healthier skin by increasing hydration & elasticity while reducing roughness & dryness.

Of course there are some negatives about drinking so much water. The first thing I noticed was having to go to the loo more often. For every cup of cold water I drink I will surely need to pee.

People have died from drinking too much water. Therefore , as recommended, I am only drinking 3 litres of water a day & i may keep this up for a week or it could become a regular part of my recovery.

Noticeably changes have already occurred for me in the past 3 days such as my skin is not as rough & blotchy, a slight loss to my waist line & over-all feeling more refreshed. Best of all I have been sleeping very well at night. Although i feel the benefits come from a combination of practising the 12 step program, physical exercise, better nutrition & proper water intake.
